The Significance of National Chiropractic Health Month

Chiropractic care is a natural and non-invasive healthcare approach that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders, with a strong emphasis on the spine. Chiropractors (like yours truly) are healthcare professionals trained to use manual techniques, adjustments, and other therapies to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and enhance overall well-being. So why does this deserve a whole month of recognition?
National Chiropractic Health Month, which takes place every October, serves several important purposes:
- Raising Awareness: One of the primary goals of this month is to raise awareness about the benefits of chiropractic care. Many individuals are unaware of the non-pharmaceutical, non-surgical options available for managing various health conditions, and this event helps to fill that knowledge gap.
- Education: Chiropractic care is not just about treating pain but also about promoting whole-body wellness. During this month (and every other month, but this month is extra special!), chiropractors and their teams often provide valuable educational resources and information to help individuals make informed decisions about their health.
- Advocacy: Chiropractors, patients, and supporters use this time to advocate for improved access to chiropractic care. It’s an opportunity to highlight the role of chiropractors in the healthcare system and promote policies that expand the reach and the research of the field.
- Community Engagement: National Chiropractic Health Month often involves community events, workshops, and health fairs where people can interact with chiropractors, ask questions, and learn about maintaining their health through chiropractic care.
In other words, while we do these things every day in our office, this month is an opportunity to connect even further with the community, and educate those who don’t (yet) know the benefits chiropractic care can have on their lives.
Themes of National Chiropractic Health Month

Each year, the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) chooses a specific theme for National Chiropractic Health Month. Themes from previous years have focused on various aspects of chiropractic care, including musculoskeletal health, back pain prevention, and the role of chiropractic care in sports injury management. These themes aim to spotlight the versatility and effectiveness of chiropractic treatments.
This year, the theme is “Relieve, Restore, Resume” The ACA says this:
“National Chiropractic Health Month (NCHM) 2023 will promote the use of non-drug approaches such as chiropractic services to alleviate pain and restore function, helping people get off the sidelines and resume the activities that matter most.”
In a world plagued with an opioid crisis, this theme is well-timed and incredibly relevant. See our September blog for more details on this, it’s a super important part of what we do.
Benefits of Chiropractic Care

Now, let’s delve into the reasons why chiropractic care is so awesome, which are worth celebrating during National Chiropractic Health Month:
- Pain Relief: Chiropractic care is renowned for its effectiveness in relieving pain, particularly in the back, neck, and joints. By adjusting the spine and addressing misalignments, chiropractors can often provide swift and long-lasting pain relief.
- Improved Mobility: Through spinal adjustments and other techniques, chiropractic care can enhance joint mobility, allowing individuals to move more freely and comfortably.
- Holistic Approach: Chiropractic care considers the body as a whole, focusing on the root cause of health issues rather than merely alleviating symptoms. This holistic approach often leads to improved overall health and well-being.
- Non-Invasive: Chiropractic care is a non-invasive and drug-free treatment option, which is especially appealing to those who prefer natural healthcare solutions.
- Personalized Care: Chiropractors tailor treatment plans to each patient’s specific needs, ensuring a personalized approach to healthcare.
National Chiropractic Health Month is an opportunity to spread awareness, educate the public, and advocate for better access to chiropractic care. Not just for us chiropractors but for you as well. You – our amazing and educated patients are well versed in the benefits of chiropractic care and why it’s important for your health. But not everyone is. Know someone who you think we could help? Show them some of the research on the ACA website, bring them in with you to your next treatment, or just have a conversation! Whatever it takes to let them know they have another option besides being in pain, or taking medication. We’d love to meet them!
