10 Reasons Why You Should Do Yoga Every Damn Day
There’s a reason why 13,424, 114 people have tagged that phrase on Instagram… because yoga is AMAZING! If you’re new to yoga, you may be thinking that it’s all about hugging trees, lighting incense and escaping to the planet Venus, but I assure you that it’s NOT at all what you think!
Adding even just 10 minutes of yoga into your daily routine (especially in the morning or before bed) can do SO many amazing things for your body and mind. Stay tuned to find out!
Who doesn’t love FREE?!?! Thanks to the wonderful thing called the internet, yoga can be performed at home via Youtube everyday! While we recommend self-practice daily, we do encourage group yoga classes as well as private lessons to grow and improve you’re practice. Also, group/private classes help to ensure you’re practicing proper posture placement, as many newbies often make mistakes that lead to injuries. So practice for free daily at your house and pick up a public/private class or two every now and then!
You’ll Eat Better& Lose Weight
There’s something about any form of exercise that just makes you eat cleaner, and yoga is the epitome of that! You’ll seriously just want to eat more fruits and veggies after practicing, fueling your body with all the good stuff instead of the bad. Not to mention that doing yoga boosts your metabolism and tones your entire body with each practice. It also detoxifies you from the inside out with all it’s various postures (asanas) that include twists and inversions.
It Makes Your Heart Happy
When you invert your body (putting your head below your heart), it literally takes a load off your ticker, which stimulates and energizes it all at the same time! Yoga also has been proven to lower blood pressure and decrease risk for other heart related issues.
SO health-wise yoga will help your heart, but it will also help your heart LOVE-wise! By practicing yoga, you’ll go through many different heart-opening postures, which open up your chest and literally let you release stress and let more love in (ok maybe that sounds a littler tree hugger-isa, but it’s true)!
It’s All About Self LOVE
One of my favorite things about yoga is that it is completely judgement free! SO what if the person next to you can put their head under their leg. Their practice is THEIR practice and your practice is YOUR practice! Yoga is all about you! Being the best version of yourself! It’s honestly such a stark contrast to lifting weights in the gym where it seems that everyone is sizing each other up all the time. When you practice yoga, you’re in a safe zone, free to love yourself and others! Yoga will make you more grateful and give you an opportunity to look within and focus on YOU! It allows you to take care of yourself so you can be a better person for this great world!
Improves Flexibility and Reduces Injuries
Who doesn’t want to be more flexible? There’s a reason why Dr. Josh and I recommend yoga for 99% of our patients! It improves flexibility significantly! The movement while simultaneously stretching lubricates your joints and prevents wear and tear on them. It also significantly improves balance, which is important for all of us as we start to age.
You’ll Sleep Like a Baby
Who doesn’t love sleep? The problem is that we don’t get enough of it. All too often we’re up late on our phones or computers and then tossing and turning with various thoughts and stressors bouncing in our head for hours. Because you’re body is more loose and relaxed after practicing yoga, you’ll fall asleep much faster and sleep much sounder. Your mind will be more clear and free of stress, meaning that when you say ‘lights out,’ it’ll actually happen!
Say No to Sickness
You know how when the winter season comes around, everyone starts getting sick? Guess what?! This doesn’t have to be you! Woo Hoo! Yoga is an immune system booster! Practicing yoga reduces cortisol, a hormone related to stress. Do you ever notice that certain people you know happen to get sick all the time, while others never get sick? Why is this?! Cortisol is a big player in that game. When cortisol levels are high because of a high-stress lifestyle, our immune system tanks and we get sick A LOT! Luckily, yoga reduces this nasty little hormone, which keeps your immune system working in tip top shape! All the different twists and turns of yoga help cleanse all the different internal organs of the body, stimulating the lymphatic system (the system in charge of your immunity). Who doesn’t love an entirely natural immune booster?!
It Improves Your Posture
Having good posture is vital, especially in this technology driven world where we are always slumped forward over our phones or computers. Poor posture has been linked to headaches, back pain, neck pain, digestive problems and even breathing issues! We have seen countless patients with postural issues due to technology ..they’ve even named a medical condition after it, called ‘Text Neck!” Fortunately, practicing yoga stretches and strengthens those postural muscles so you’ll stand more upright, breathe better and have improved digestion!
Helllooo Mental Clarity
Because practicing yoga releases endorphins, it helps you think much more clearly. Practice it daily and you’ll become more and more clear each time. You’ll also become stronger mentally and more confident. This increase in focus ups your daily productivity, helping you conquer all your tasks efficiently and affectively. Also to mention that daily exercise helps your brain as you age, preventing dementia and Alzheimers. Do you really want to kill it at your job? Start each day with 60 minutes of yoga…you’ll get a promotion in no time!
Say Bye Bye To Stress
Because yoga relaxes your body by breathing and movement, you can say Bye Bye Bye to STRESS & ANXIETY! The more you practice, the more you’ll sync your breath with each movement and connect to your mind, which is totally liberating! Sure this isn’t going to happen the first 3 times you come to your mat (maybe it will?!), but the more you do it, the better you’re mind will feel. The better you’ll be able to deal with all the crap that comes to you each day. You’ll be able to tackle those stressful work and life situations with much more ease and ability.
So yoga isn’t exactly what you thought, huh?! Yoga is certainly what you make it. You can find your inner peace or attend a class for the physical workout, but either way, whatever you do on that mat is going to benefit your life physically and mentally. So grab a mat, head to a class, hire a private instructor or pull up a Youtube page and get your yoga-on EVERY DAMN DAY!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
