How To Get Fit & Healthy Fast
We love donuts and cake. We love ice cream and French fries. We love binge watching Netflix and eating potato chips. You get the point, we LOVE food!
Let’s face it, if you ate like this everyday, you’d likely live a shorter life due to health issues. Health is wealth. Health is happiness. If you don’t have your health, then life isn’t quite as enjoyable. So Dr. Josh and I have put together a list of quick tips to sprinkle in between your pizza dates and beer festivals.
There’s No Such Thing As ‘Fast’
We really lured you in there with the ‘fast’ statement, right?! Well, we GOT YOU! Sadly, there’s no physical way to get healthy ‘fast,’ but you certainly can make some fast, simple changes that will help lead you down a road to better health and a happier life! Keep reading…
Eat Your Favorite ‘Bad Foods’ in Moderation
Dr. Josh and I are realists and we practice what we preach. We LOVE cheat meals and I think life is all about balance and enjoying it, but it’s all about consuming those ‘bad foods’ in MODERATION! If you love pizza, eat it once a week, not every day. Do you love soda, have one a week, not 3 a day. Are cookies your go-to snack? Eat them once a week, not a package a day. You get the point. Plus, consuming your favorite foods in moderation makes them that MUCH more enjoyable!
Drink Water For Better Health
Just by drinking half our body weight in ounces of water daily will take you 20 steps forward to living a healthier life? Why? Because water is freaking amazing! Not only does it hydrate you (duh), but it also flushes out toxins and aids in digestion, which helps with weight loss. Water prevents muscle cramps, moisturizes skin and boosts the immune system! CHEERS!
Just Eat Real Food
If you are what you eat, what are you? If you’re answer is cookie dough ice cream, then it may be time to make a few slight changes. The easiest way to live a healthier life is to JUST EAT REAL FOOD! Of course you can have your favorite treats and sweets in moderation, but 95% of the food you consume should be REAL! By real I mean nothing that comes in a box, bag or can. Just good old fashioned fruits, veggies and protein! Consuming processed foods not only is bad in terms of weight gain, but its just messes up your entire system. Your digestion slows and becomes irregular, you become cloudy headed, and you have low energy. Eating REAL food is the BEST way to go!
Stretch Every Single Day
Stretching 10 minutes daily (or more if you really want to make yourself feel amazing) makes such a HUGE difference! Get a yoga mat and keep it by your television. At the end of the day when you sit down to watch Game of Thrones, pull out the mat and stretch for 10+ minutes. Not sure how to stretch? Head over to Youtube for endless amounts of basic stretch videos!
Get Moving in Any Way Possible
If you hate the gym, guess what?! You don’t have to GO! WOOOOOO! It’s a celebration!
But, you are going to need to move, somehow, somewhere, some way. Go on a walk with the dog on the beach, grab a kayak and hit the water, or join a badminton league. Find some kind of activity that you LOVE to do that involves movement and JUST DO IT! You get bonus points if your activity involves you being in nature, which helps reduce stress and reconnect with Mother Earth.
Sleep 7-8 Hours Per Night
Sleep deficiency is a big no no. “The average American only sleeps 6.8 hours per night, with 40% of us only sleeping 6 hours or less each night.” So how can you sleep more and better? Obviously if you have a newborn this is non applicable. For the most part, most of us CAN sleep more, we just choose to be distracted, which keeps us up late at night. What may be causing this distraction? You know the answer…TECHNOLOGY! Shut off that darn phone or computer 1-2 hours prior to the time you want to be asleep.
Feeling healthier already? We thought you would! By making these small changes in your life, you’re bound to live healthier and longer! Get started today!
